Travel Diary: Reichstag Building

As I mentioned before, I went to Berlin upon the invite of the German Foreign Office. Although my sister and I booked an earlier flight to have a bit more time to tour the city by ourselves, there are just too many interesting places to cover, all in a couple of days. Good thing the Goethe Institute (who took care of us on behalf of the German Foreign Office) made sure we’d get to squeeze a few sightseeing in between our meetings everyday. One of my many sightseeing requests ( because I’m an eager beaver tourist like that) was to visit the Reichstag or Parliament Building and have a quick brunch there. Thankfully, my request was granted. (Goethe Institute be like, “I’m a genie in a bottle, baby.” Just kidding!)

The Reichstag is one of the most visited tourist spots in Berlin, and upon seeing its unique architecture, it’s easy to understand why. Its main feature is the large glass dome located at the building’s roofdeck, where visitors can get a 360-degree view of the city and its most famous tourist spots like the Brandenburg Gate, Berliner Fernsehturm, Berliner Dom and more. Once inside the glass dome, visitors can go up the spiralling ramps and look straight down the mirror at the center of the dome, through which the parliament or Bundestag’s main hall can be seen below. This means that every time the parliament is in session, visitors can watch everything unfold, all the way from the glass dome. In a way, it symbolizes that the people are above the government; and therefore, the government is accountable to the people. Now that’s what you call transparency, both literally and figuratively speaking. Doesn’t this make you love the Reichstag building even more? Architecture is always better when it’s this thoughtful.

After going around the glass dome (security is tight so you can’t really wander around the halls or anywhere else), we capped off our visit with a quick brunch at the Reichstag’s roofdeck restaurant named Kaefer. It was such a wonderful experience–munching on good food while admiring Berlin’s cityscape from above. If it weren’t for our packed schedule, I would’ve stayed here for hours! I highly recommend it.

P.S. If you plan to visit Reichstag, I strongly suggest to pre-register online before you do. The lines can get pretty long so winging it might not be the best idea. As for eating at Kaefer, you can make a reservation online as well.

Wow Cams. The architecture is breathtaking and much more because of what it portrays and symbolizes! Ooh and I’m in love with that jumpsuit! But seriously though when I read “Kaefer” (Reichstag’s roofdeck restaurant)akala ko “Kiefer” as in si Ravena. LOL. Or maybe I just haven’t gotten over the fact that it’s basketball season plus we won versus Senegal! Woohoo! That was totally out of the topic. HAHAHA. Anyway, the color of your toenails are lovely too! More travel diaries please…

One of the reason why I watched the movie What If (did you watch it?) is because of the setting, Berlin. The characters also went to Berlin just to follow his girl friend and became his wife at the end of the story. I wanted to see what Berlin looks like and noticed that beer is really a staple drink there! Speaking of beer, you ordered one for a brunch? hmmm…hahaha!

PS The link for your jumpsuit doesn’t work :(
