If you want to play it safe when it comes to business-appropriate attire, you should consider sticking to plain neutral colors and simple silhouettes. It’s hard to offend or distract anyone when you’re wearing something that’s universally accepted to be pleasing to the eyes, no matter where you’re from or what industry you’re getting into. This is why whenever I get questions about what to wear to a job interview or first day of work, without any additional information on the type of work they have, I always say a neutral-colored outfit that’s crisp and streamlined is your best bet. This way, your peers and bosses can pay more attention to what you have to say than on how much they hate that magenta abstract print top with poorly placed ruffles you have on.
