Declutter Your Home

I belong to a family of hoarders. Whenever we declutter our rooms and get rid of old things, we never really throw them away. We just send them all up to a magical place called the attic. This is probably the reason why I’m too scared to go up there. (That and my childhood fear of ghosts or “mumu” as I would call them. But hey, that calls for an entirely different post.) As much as I’d like to believe that our attic is an abyss that will forever solve our problems, it’s far from a bottomless pit. Sooner or later, it’ll run out of space and our house will turn into one big garage full of my mom’s unused plates and appliances, dad’s old golf clubs and luggages,my brother’s car accessories and audio equipment, my…well, I’m a blogger so I’d say my everything, and my sister’s… Hold on, she just might be the only hope for this family. (And is probably the reason why I was almost fooled into thinking our attic is indeed an abyss that never gets full.) She’s the one who TIRELESSLY NAGS us about selling our old and unused items, instead of just keeping everything in our attic. She takes all our unwanted stuff and segregates them into either keep, donate, throw or sell. The ones for selling, she sells online. She has tried quite a number of buy and sell websites but ultimately, she prefers OLX. She has sold so many random items, from small ones like gadgets and clothes to bigger ones like old chairs and tables. Because of her and OLX, my family is slowly learning to say goodbye to our stuff and get rid of them for good.

You should try it! I know we tend to get a wee bit too attached to our items but it feels great to find them new owners and homes through OLX. It’s super easy too. Just visit this page and you’re on your way to decluttering your home. Trust me, you’ll feel so much lighter–figuratively and literally speaking. Just look at how happy these people are on this video! They clearly do!

Ate! hihihi… You’re so cute sa picture! My family is just like your family! The difference is, we don’t have an attic but we store them under our bed :) And then talked about the memories behind each toys and stuffs and remembered them as if they happened yesterday!<3 :)

Lmao! I can really relate to this. I always keep basically everything and don’t throw it away. And it’s not as if I’m gonna remember ALL of the stuffs I’m keeping. Aside from I am really uber sentimental over small things, I’m afraid that after I have thrown or sold or given away those things, need of using it might arise. It would be frustrating. But sadly, I could never sell my ‘valued’ stuffs since they’re mostly papers, basically garbages. My room would definitely catch fire easily. LOL!

The first pic is adorable Miss. I wanna squeeze ur face!

I like this post :) very practical. But I was wondering, as a blogger (with so much stuff I suppose), how do you keep everything (clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, makeup, etc etc.) fit and organized in your room/closet? do you still sell clothes these days? :)

Yes I do! A couple of times every year :) I use our guest room now as a closet LOL. My items have spilled over to the next floor :)

OMG. haha! This is so me. Since i am a very sentimental person, even the slightest piece of paper, small figurines and such i always try to keep them as much as possible. but i have to admit, it’s very tiring to see my room untidy. haha!

Is that a Barbie food truck sa upper left corner ng pic? Is it a keepsake? hehe. I remember I couldn’t really play with my collection of Barbie dolls kasi my mom wanted me to “preserve” them for future generations at baka mag increase pa daw ang value (malamang my collection won’t be as valuable if compared with unopened Barbies kasi I used to open the boxes in order to play with the dolls – without my mom knowing, of course…ha!)

I’m a hoarder din. It got to a point where I once kept an ordinary styrofoam cup na ginamit ko when I attended a retreat years ago kasi it reminded me of my crush… baaahahahaha. It took me a while to get rid of it. haha. Thankfully, now that I am waaay older, it’s easier for me to let some things go na… Haven’t tried OLX pero do they have policies/guidelines that will at least try to avoid yung mga scammers?

I think it’s a Barbie camper van because there’s a bed too! I love Barbies. I used to destroy my sister’s though even if I had my own Barbies haha! :) And yes they do, but like other websites, you can’t really avoid them 100%. You, as the seller, must be cautious still :)

I am not a horder, I usually give my old clothes to my mother’s “ina-anak” or to my younger cousins and my old gadgets to my little brother who never complains and never asks for the latest gadget. :-) Your attic is very organized! I love that figurine you are holding in the last photo. :)

Naku naman. Tinamaan ako ng matindi! Even if my friends and family say I’m the “neat freak/OCD-striken” one of the group, I’m still a hoarder. I keep a lot of things especially if there are memories attached to them. It’s not even an excuse that I’ve got things sorted and arranged. I’m still hoarding. HAHA. Oopsies. I think i need to sell stuff na. :)

Yes! No excuses! You should try letting go of them. Memories are here to stay, with or without the items :)

Same, I don’t know why but I’m super sentimental with regards to my stuff that even tho I don’t use it. I tend to keep it. haha altho, my stuff aren’t worth selling since most of them are retreat letter boxes and test papers from high school and college hahaha

HAHA!! Napangiti ako….. i can totally relate!! This is the article that i was not waiting for… but, really, was kind of waiting for na rin.
Although… through the years of moving here and abroad…. natuto na ako mag-let go….. over the years no matter how much we get rid of things (sell or dispose or donate), i don’t know– we just manage to accumulate so much stuff….. pero, am no longer the hoarder type. Now, whenever something i no longer use can be used by someone else, pinamimigay ko na. Nakakatuwa pa pag nakita mong tuwang-tuwa yung pagbibigyan mo. My mother is the hoarder type in our family.. we call her room the “black hole” hehe.. o “Bluebeard’s chamber” ayon sa pamangkin ko, haha. Just how so? Nagpapaalam kapatid ko pag papasok siya dun, “just in case daw magtagal siyang di na namin makita” lol. So that we’ll know where to look for him daw, haha.

Our friends and i have this white elephant Christmas exchange gift — magdadala bawat isa ng item na hindi na ginagamit pero pwede pang gamitin ng iba. No need to buy :) Personally, i find this tough since i have been practicing a lifestyle of just keeping what i use.. am no longer the type who has so many stuff (most people find it hard to believe).

That’s why i’m amazed when i see posts of people on Fb about the evolution of their mobiles because every time i get a new mobile, i either sell my old one or give it away.
It’s a decision — a conscious decision that we have to practice all the time!! A “purging” of stuff every year is really an “amazing” activity — you’d be so amazed at how much stuff we can accumulate in so short a time.. haha.

Pero tama ka — masarap feeling :D

I agree! They just keep piling up! That’s so funny naman na nagpapaalam pa. Malala na yan! Your mom seriously needs to sell stuff online, baka she’ll earn hundreds of thousands!

That white elephant idea is pretty cool! I’ve never heard of it before. I’ll try to introduce that to my friends. :) I admire you! You know how to let go and to just buy what you need. Galing!

I’m like you, I do not throw anything.
For over 30 years I lived the apartment where I live
but I do not have a basement or attic
but sometimes I throw a little bit, but it’s worse
