To My Sister

I don’t know how I’d survive life without my sister. As a little kid, I wanted to be her. Anything she did, I wanted to do. I was that annoying little sister who wanted to copy everything about her older sister. And she was that older sister who hated the fact that her little sister was her copycat. LOL. Thankfully (and for her sanity), I quickly grew out of that phase, but this doesn’t mean I no longer look up to her.

For 27 years now (a.k.a my whole life), I’ve shared a room with my sister so we’ve always been close. Like most sisters, we’ve gone through different stages–from playmates to study buddies to business partners to besties to enemies to shopping partners to travel buddies and so on and so forth. Of course, it wasn’t always rainbows and butterflies between us. We’ve had our fair share of fights and tears through the years. But even so, I can honestly say she’s always been there for me–cheering me on, supporting me in all my endeavours and even sacrificing her time and energy to help me with my projects that don’t benefit her in any way. She’s the first person I run to whenever I need advice on anything and everything that’s important in my life, whenever someone is putting me down and whenever I need help. She’s my confidante, no. 1 supporter, defender and best friend. I may not tell her this much but I couldn’t ask for a better sister and I’m beyond grateful that I have her to hold my hand and guide me through life.

This is why whenever I see her sad, it pains me that I can’t seem to do the same for her–that I can’t wash away her worries the way she does for me and I can’t fix her problems the way she fixes mine. I wish I can make her see what I see in her because in my eyes, she’s a superwoman–smart, beautiful, and able to do anything she puts her mind into.

So to uplift my sister’s spirits, I thought I’d send a happygram her way. Happygrams are happy little messages that you can share to your friends and loved ones to make them feel better.

To my dearest Achi, I believe in you. Don’t forget to believe in yourself too. Have faith that things will work out because you deserve it. And if you get scared taking the big leap, know that I’m right beside you. It’s my turn to hold your hand through this.

If you or any of your loved ones are going through the same thing, I thought I’d share this other happygram I made through Hersheys’ microsite that you can check out here. Hopefully, it’ll make you or your loved one smile–or better yet, inspire you to spread the happiness even further by joining the “My Happy Thoughts” campaign. It’s super simple. Just take a selfie with a happy thought of 20 characters or less like how I did above or make a Happygram on www.HersheysHappygrams.com. Post them on your social media sites and include the hashtag #Happygrams. Don’t forget to tag me too so that I can re-tweet my favorite Happygram among your entries.

Never underestimate the power of simple gestures like this. Together, let’s make everyday moments better. Follow HersheysPh on Twitter and HersheysHappy on Instagram to learn more about #Happygrams.

Aww, I wish I had an elder sister like that…more like I wish that my elder sister was alive. But I still could relate this since I had some friends who served as my elder sisters. Our siblings push us to our limits and will be there to support us whenever we’re accomplishing things. Fights are not signs of negativity. They are the sign of learning our mistakes with a little touch of violence. Lol just kidding.

Tbh, I also thought she was your younger sister. Anyways, you two are so adorable. Hashtag sibling goals lol ( even if I’m an only child hahaha )

LOL I like how you explained fights. I think the closer you are, the more chances you went through fights because this only makes your relationship stronger. I’m saddened that your sister passed away so soon but I’m happy you remain positive and have found sisters in your friends :)

(Please insert a teary-eyed emoticon here) Though I don’t know most of things that happened between your lives, but by reading through your blog posts every time you were with your sister, I could feel the love that you shared! Though I was the only girl in our siblings, I’m thankful that I have my besties that I really consider as my sisters. Even so, I also love my brothers deeply too! You were right, without these people around us, I don’t know who will I be right now. I thanked God for giving us these people who shared our lives through tears and joy, ups and downs and mostly to love us unconditionally. It was such a beautiful blog post Ate Camille. All my loves, I sent it to you. :)

This is so touching Cams! The two of you are so cute. I remember seeing her during your birthday dinner and how you talked about her helping you prepare and all that. It’s so sweet. Ang cool basta may sister! Oh and happygrams/thoughtful notes are always the best. I agree on that. I remember this gesture my sister did once… she wrote a short and sweet note on my planner and to think wala ngang occasion nun which makes it extra special. :)

I can so relate with this! I have my own elder sister and I copy every little things she does (especially when we were kids). Now that we are now adults we cherish each other very much. Your relationship with your sister is truly inspiring. :)
