No Excuses

I always used to say I can never work out without a personal trainer to motivate me. Without one, I’d probably go to the gym and just take my time doing half-baked exercises. For years, you won’t ever see me even attempt to work out on my own. But lately, to my surprise, I’ve actually been working out by myself whenever I’m abroad or too busy to hit the gym.

You see, when I stop working out for a couple of weeks, I always feel weak as a baby when I get back to my gym routine and I hate hate hate this feeling. To avoid this, I figured I should just squeeze in a few work outs here and there whenever I can. No personal trainer? No gym? No problem. All I need is my CustomFit app on my phone.

The first time I heard about this app was when I joined the media team in Singapore for Fit For Fashion Season 2’s finale. I was at a dinner with the Fit For Fashion and Fitness First team and they were talking about this new app they have in the works. I got so excited about it because CustomFit is actually customizable (hence the name) and it sounded really nifty and easy to use. Now that I’ve been using it, I wasn’t wrong!

Basically, CustomFit is a digital training system that you can personalize to keep you fit and motivated. Now available for both Apple and Android, CustomFit features over 800 exercises and a Fitness Logic system which will build a series of workouts based on your individual goal and training preferences. This means whether you’re a gym novice or fitness expert wanting to be leaner, stronger, athletic or simply want to target a specific body part to work on, CustomFit is able to help you achieve your goal. It’s like having your very own personal trainer with you, anytime. Best of all, it’s FREE!

CustomFit was my workout buddy the entire time I was in Europe. In between tours and shoots, I would wake up a bit early in the morning and turn on my CustomFit app. Instead of choosing from the library of exercises manually, I prefer having the app generate my workout for the day. This way I get to discover new exercises and there is variety in my work out routine. All I have to do is answer a few questions like my experience level, the type of workout I want to do, the equipment I have on hand (if any, so if I don’t have equipment or at the gym, the app will take that into account) and the time I can allot for my workout.

Based on my answers, CustomFit generates a list of exercises for me and I can just save them into my workout list. Each workout has a short demo video and step by step description so I don’t have to worry about not knowing how to perform the move or not executing it right. Super cool, right? After every workout, I even get to track my progress, calories burnt and more on my personal dashboard. I highly recommend it.

Go ahead, give it a try! CustomFit, together with my experience of meeting the Fit For Fashion Season 2 finalists Kyle and Sam and grand winner Jackie, has really inspired and motivated me further. I hope it’s the same for you. They have proven to me that our fitness transformation journey depends on us. With all the tools available to us, there really are no excuses. Time to get fit!

I think I’m not really good with diets. I incorporate quinoa in my meals though instead of rice. I usually work out 2x or 3x a week, 30 minutes to an hour each time. :)

I go to Fitness First. I don’t really stick to a certain diet but I try to stay away from rice. Hard to resist though!
